A catered event at Stonehenge Gardens in Hood River – Week of 8 1 05
Written by Gabby

Normally, here at Dining in the Gorge, we talk about Restaurants, their atmosphere, food, and service. But recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a popular Hood River restaurant for a wedding we were attending and I couldn’t resist the chance to share our experience with you all.

I’ve been to a few weddings in my time but for someone who is looking for a truly unique place for a ceremony, reception, and catering for up to 200 people, you really have to consider Stonehenge Gardens. It is simply fabulous! Our experience was over the top spectacular, in al categories.

The restaurant already has a great reputation for good atmosphere, divine food, and great service, but WOW was I ever impressed with their ability to accommodate a large group for an outdoor wedding. Every detail was covered from start to finish.

Starting with the Lawn Area, which is where the wedding ceremony was held, it was beautiful. Lined with pine and oak trees it is approximately 150 ft x 150 ft square and is divided up into several levels with beautiful basalt rock walls and landscaped perimeters. It includes a natural “stage” area that would hold a 5 – 7 piece band nicely, or in this case, a Bride and Groom! The lawn was lush and green and well groomed for the occasion, and despite the wind howling through the trees (and making it impossible to hear the ceremony) our seating area was quite pleasant.

As we left the ceremony area we were greeted with trays of appetizers served by a courteous staff as we traveled the lovely cobblestone style path that leads to the reception area. Once again we were impressed with the professional presentation of food, DJ music, and more wonderful atmosphere. The Reception area is a multi-leveled mixture of fine brick stairs and patios mixed with trees and separated by lush green garden-like landscaping. There were statues, and lights, outdoor tents in some places, a stainless steel grill, a buffet table, and a well stocked outdoor bar. The Staff brought out the salads, and then everyone went through the buffet line for a choice of beef or salmon.

The food was simply heavenly, and the staff was prompt, thoughtful and courteous. And as for the atmosphere, well there just weren’t words to describe it and do it justice. If I ever get remarried, this would have to top the list of places I’d want to use.
